Charlie Gil read too many music rags and made himself over as DIM JIM, a rock 'n' roll zealot bent on salvation through rhythm, an alter-egotist act mimicking heroic patterns of some golden age that only existed in his mind.

The result was IT'S HIM!, a howling blast of infectious garage rock boogie anthems and speaker shredding fuzz.

Recorded and mixed on 4-track cassette in a feverish weeklong marathon, the single-minded Gil played all the instruments himself: guitars and bass, drums, drum programming, percussion, and so on, and wrote "The Beat Combo Manifesto" as a distillation of his own eccentric vision of what rock 'n' roll is or could be. "Rock 'n' Roll is what I say it is," according to the document.

One of only a handful of complete master tapes still extant following the fire that consumed the lives and most of the work of the Wolf Note Collective, IT'S HIM! is one of the purest expressions of rock 'n' roll music ever to come out of South Carolina.
